HubSpot Import Errors: How to Fix Each One
HubSpot Duplicate Root-Cause Audit
Imports keep creating duplicates? We find which imports, forms and integrations create them, with a written SOP. From your export, no login needed.
HubSpot lists every import error code with what it means and how to resolve it in its knowledge base article Review and troubleshoot record import errors (retrieved 2026-10-13). Below we summarise the errors we see most often, what happens to the row, and the fix. Check the article for the current wording before you re-import.
Find your errors first
- Open the import summary. The Import errors table lists the file column, HubSpot property, error type and how many rows or values were affected.
- Click View rows with errors, then Download rows with errors as file, or Download errors as file for the error codes.
- The downloaded file shows codes in capitals with underscores, for example AMBIGUOUS_ENUMERATION_OPTION.
You can also fix many values during mapping: hover over a row with errors and use Edit column values. HubSpot notes you can only select values from the first 1,000 rows there, though replacements apply to all rows.
Common errors and fixes
| Error | What happens | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Invalid email or stage/pipeline value | Rows not imported | Fix the email format, or match Deal Stage, Deal Pipeline, Ticket Status and Ticket Pipeline values to existing names. |
| Invalid option (enumeration) | Row imported, property left blank | Match the dropdown/checkbox value to an existing option label or internal value, or add the option. |
| Ambiguous enumeration option | Row imported, property left blank | The value matches more than one option, or you used a label that differs from the internal value. Use the internal value. |
| Duplicate unique property value | Row not imported or only one row kept | Remove duplicate emails or other unique values in the file, or pick a different unique column. |
| Duplicate record ID | Not updated or associated | Keep one row per Record ID, the most up-to-date one. |
| Invalid or unknown Record ID | Not imported/updated | Export existing records to get correct Record IDs. |
| Owner not found / ambiguous owner | Imported, Owner blank | Use the owner's email address as it appears in the account. |
| Invalid date | Imported, date blank or swapped | Pick the right date format at import time, or reformat the column. |
| Invalid number | Imported, number blank | Remove currency signs, commas used as text and other non-numeric characters. |
| Unmatched column header | Column not imported | Map the column to a property on the mapping screen, create one, or skip it. |
| Multiple sheets / invalid file type | Nothing imported | Save as one-sheet .csv, .xls or .xlsx. |
| Create-only import with existing records | Matching rows skipped | Re-import with "create and update" if you meant to update. |
Re-import only the failed rows
Fix the downloaded error rows and import that file, not the whole original, so rows that already succeeded are not imported twice.
Pre-import checklist
Tick each item as you check your file. The output lists what is still open. Nothing is uploaded; it runs in your browser.
If you want us to fix the file
