Keap CSV Import Checker
CRM Import-Ready Contact Cleanup
Want the whole file cleaned? We fix emails, phones, names and duplicates and return an import-ready CSV. $9 per 500 rows.
Keap's import guide has a list of small file problems that cause contacts to land in the wrong fields: an extension in the phone column, the whole address in one cell, "US" instead of the country name. They are easy to fix and hard to spot by eye in a few thousand rows. Load your CSV below and the checker finds them for you. It runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
Keap CSV import checker
Upload or paste the CSV you plan to import into Keap. The checker flags the problems Keap's import preparation guide warns about: blank rows and columns, unsupported date formats, extensions or several numbers in one phone cell, single-column addresses, abbreviated countries, special characters and contact ID columns, plus bad and duplicate emails.
Your file is read in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing is uploaded or sent anywhere, and nothing is stored after you close the page.
The Keap rules this checker uses
All of these come from Keap's help article "Prepare your CSV import file" (source: https://help.infusionsoft.com/hc/en-us/articles/45313319224077-Prepare-your-CSV-import-file). The article is in Keap's Max Classic help center; if you use a different Keap edition, check your own import screen too.
- CSV only: the article says data must be in .CSV format.
- Blank rows and columns: delete them; the article says they will corrupt the import.
- Clear headers: headers must describe the column accurately, or the data imports into the wrong place.
- Dates: MM-DD-YYYY, MM/DD/YYYY, YYYY-MM-DD and YYYY/MM/DD are the accepted formats.
- Phones: put multiple numbers in separate columns and extensions in their own column. Text or an extension in a phone field causes an improper import.
- Addresses: split into separate columns; one full-address field imports improperly.
- Countries: spell out country names; abbreviations import improperly.
- Tags: separate several tags with commas, or you get wrong tag names.
- Special characters: remove characters such as ¥ © ° ¾ √ ♥.
- Contact IDs: do not import them; the article says that will break the import.
Do not import opted-out contacts
Keap's guide warns against importing contacts who have opted out of your email marketing, because you will run into spam issues (source: https://help.infusionsoft.com/hc/en-us/articles/45313319224077-Prepare-your-CSV-import-file). If your export has an unsubscribed or opt-out column, filter those rows out before you import.
How to use the result
- Fix the issues in the summary list.
- Download the file with the
import_checkcolumn, filter to rows with a note, and fix them. - Delete the
import_checkcolumn, save as CSV and import a small test batch first.
Dates in the wrong format? The date format fixer converts mixed dates to YYYY-MM-DD, one of the formats Keap lists.
